Shirley Bassey - Bassey Scraps Mandela Concert Performance

DAME SHIRLEY BASSEY has been forced to pull out of a performance at Nelson Mandela's 90th birthday concert in London this week (27Jun08) - after failing to recover in time from a stomach operation last month (May08).

The Big Spender singer, 71, underwent emergency surgery in Monaco, France after suffering from abdominal pains.

She has been resting at her Monaco home for the last few weeks, where her spokesman Paul Carey said she was "on the road to a full recovery".

But Bassey has now cancelled her slot at the 46664 concert, which will pay tribute to the former South African president, because she has been advised against travelling in her condition.

Carey says, "On the advice of her surgeon, Dame Shirley Bassey will now not be able to perform as scheduled at the Nelson Mandela 46664 concert.

"Dame Shirley has been advised not to travel at the present time, so as to aid her continued full recovery following surgery last month."

The 46664 concert is due to take place in London's Hyde Park on Friday (27Jun08).

Salma Hayek - Hayeks 35 Million Wedding

SALMA HAYEK will marry her billionaire fiance FRANCOIS-HENRI PINAULT in a spectacular $3.5 million (GBP1.75 million) celebration next spring (09), according to reports.

The couple announced their engagement and Hayek's pregnancy last year (07), which was followed by the birth of daughter Valentina in September (07).

Hayek and Pinault have enjoyed a low-key relationship, but sources tell the National Enquirer that the 46-year-old French boss of fashion houses Gucci, Yves St. Laurent and Balenciaga will dig deep for a five-day-long wedding ceremony in St. Tropez, France.

An insider reveals, "It took Francois over a year to get Salma to agree to marry him, and he doesn't want to spare any expense. Francois basically gave her the key to the vault and said, 'Go wild.'"

The tabloid claims the pair will fly their friends in on private jets; put them up in luxury resorts; spend $500,000 (GBP250,000) on a wedding dress and almost $1 million (GBP500,000) on flowers.

US band accuse Coldplay of copying

US indie band Creaky Boards have claimed that Coldplay stole the melody for 'Viva La Vida' from them.

The Brooklyn band have posted a clip on YouTube splicing together segments of their track, 'The Songs I Didn't Write', and Coldplay's release.

Andrew Hoepfner, the band's songwriter, alleged that Chris Martin may have stolen their melody after watching them at the CMJ festival in New York last October.

The YouTube posting features a caption, which reads: "We were flattered when we thought we saw Chris Martin in the crowd that night. He seemed pretty into it. Maybe too into it.

"Anyway, I wish Coldplay the best of luck. If they ever want to collaborate, I've got some microphones we could use in my bedroom. I'm gonna get ready to play a show now. I hope the sound guy remembers to pass the tip jar... "

Coldplay have denied the accusations, arguing that their track was first demoed in March 2007.

'Viva La Vida' is the title track from the band's latest studio album, which charted at number one yesterday.
