US indie band Creaky Boards have claimed that Coldplay stole the melody for 'Viva La Vida' from them.
The Brooklyn band have posted a clip on YouTube splicing together segments of their track, 'The Songs I Didn't Write', and Coldplay's release.
Andrew Hoepfner, the band's songwriter, alleged that Chris Martin may have stolen their melody after watching them at the CMJ festival in New York last October.
The YouTube posting features a caption, which reads: "We were flattered when we thought we saw Chris Martin in the crowd that night. He seemed pretty into it. Maybe too into it.
"Anyway, I wish Coldplay the best of luck. If they ever want to collaborate, I've got some microphones we could use in my bedroom. I'm gonna get ready to play a show now. I hope the sound guy remembers to pass the tip jar... "
Coldplay have denied the accusations, arguing that their track was first demoed in March 2007.
'Viva La Vida' is the title track from the band's latest studio album, which charted at number one yesterday.
